WALLACE- Wallace-Rose Hill scored 4 touchdowns in the final 5:40 of the 2nd period to snap a 7-7 tie and take a 35-7 halftime lead en route to a 61-7 non-conference football victory over East Bladen in the season opener for both teams.
Junior Malcolm Boney had staked the Bulldogs to an early 7-0 lead returning a pass interception for a touchdown with just 3:08 having elapsed off the clock.
The Eagles rallied as sophomore Kewane Maynor threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Malikah Moore. Junior Blaine Pope kicked the extra point to tie the game 7-7 with 10:53 remaining before halftime.
A 4-yard touchdown run ignited the Wallace-Rose Hill scoring burst with 5:40 on the 1st half clock. Senior Antwon Montgomery darted 8 yards for another TD at the 3:29 mark. Sophomore Irving Brown scooted 19 yards to paydirt with 1:25 left in the half.
Brown then reeled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from senior Xzavier Pearsall that beat the halftime whistle by just 3 seconds and boosted the Bulldog lead to 35-7 at intermission.
Boney ran 15 yards just over a minute into the 2nd half to raise the margin to 42-7. Senior Jacob Schrei returned an Eagle fumble 30 yards for a touchdown, and Pearsall connected with Brown again on a 9-yard TD pass as the lead grew to 54-7 after a pair of failed conversions.
Corbin Kerr closed out the Bulldog scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run with 8:43 left in the game.
The Eagles lost 4 fumbles in the game and suffered the early pass interception. East Bladen senior Jordan Mathis intercepted a Bulldog pass but that was the only Wallace-Rose Hill turnover. The Bulldogs rushed for 287 yards and had 325 total yards. East Bladen gained 62 yards on the ground and finished with 137 yards of total offense.
Junior Masion Brooks carried the ball 20 times for 71 yards to key the Eagle offense. Maynor connected on 6 of 9 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Moore caught 3 passes for 59 yards and the 1 touchdown. Junior Chris Harding snared an 18-yard pass from Maynor.
Brown rushed 7 times for 66 yards and a touchdown and snagged 2 touchdown passes for a total of 38 yards to lead the WRH offense. Kerr carried 8 times for 66 yards and a touchdown, and Lonnie Wilson ran 7 times for 63 yards.
East Bladen will travel to South Columbus Friday night for another non-conference game.
